Who are our Experts?  

Hon Sir Ian Barker QC
was a Judge of the High Court of New Zealand from 1976 to 1997. He is a World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) domain dispute panellist and is a Past-President and Fellow of the Arbitrators' & Mediators' Institute of New Zealand (AMINZ), and a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (UK)

Sir Ian has been instructed as arbitrator in several international arbitrations by the ICC Court, Paris. He was recently Chair of an Investment Dispute arbitration between a European investor and an Asian nation. He has conducted several inquiries of various sorts including, most recently, a review of the Press Council.

Andrew Brown QC
has been appointed the Chair of the Experts. His appointment is for a period of two years. Andrew Brown is experienced in handling internet domain name disputes in NZ and US courts. He was Australasian President of the Intellectual Property Society of Australia and New Zealand (IPANZ) and is also a current WIPO panellist.

Clive Elliott
is an Auckland-based Barrister, who sits on two Law Society committees and is an officer of the New Zealand Committee of IPANZ. He is appointed to WIPO's panel of neutrals and has decided a number of international domain name disputes.

Hon Robert Fisher QC
has 15 years experience as a High Court Judge. Since leaving the bench in March 2004 he has been in full-time practice as an arbitrator and mediator. He is also a member of the Kiribati, Samoa, Tuvalu and Cook Islands Courts of Appeal. He is a Fellow of the Arbitrators and Mediators Institute of New Zealand and an expert for the Council of Country Code Administrators Domain Name Complaint Resolution Service.

Hon Barry Paterson QC
has eight years’ experience as a High Court Judge and is an Fellow of the Arbitrators and Mediators Institute of New Zealand. He is on both its Arbitrators and Mediators Panel and he is a member of the New Zealand Bar Association.

Warwick Smith
is a Fellow (Arbitration) of the Arbitrators' & Mediators' Institute of New Zealand Inc., and a member of that Institute's Panel of Arbitrators. His arbitration work includes international appointments as a Panellist for WIPO, deciding disputes over domain names and on a number of occasions he has been appointed by WIPO to chair international panels handling such disputes.

Terence Stapleton
is a barrister sole. He has a close involvement with the New Zealand Law Society’s litigation skills training programmes. He is also a commercial mediator and chartered arbitrator and is a Fellow of both the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and the New Zealand Arbitrators' and Mediators' Institute.

Dr Clive Trotman
is a Fellow of the Arbitrators' & Mediators' Institute of New Zealand, a member of its Arbitration and Mediation Panels and formerly of Council. He is a member of the Legal Aid Review Panel and the Otago District Law Society Standards Committee. He has adjudicated numerous international domain name disputes in five jurisdictions.
