Access to Information

With the introduction of the Individual Registrant Privacy Option (IRPO), there is now the ability to withhold information from the public display. The Domain Name Commission has acknowledged that in some circumstances there will be a legitimate need to access the withheld information.

Access to withheld information is covered by the .nz Operations and Procedures Policy.

All .nz policies can be found via the following link: https://dnc.org.nz/story/policy

Memorandums of Understanding

The DNCL will enter into Memorandums of Understanding ("MOU's") where there are on-going and legitimate need for access to Withheld Information. There will be two types of MOUs, with either Streamlined or Automatic Access. These agreements will be published on the DNCL website once they have been signed.

In regards to access to withhold information by MOU entities, the registrant will be notified of the access to the withheld information as soon as practicable after its disclosure.

One-off requests

If you would like to submit an application for a one-request to withheld information, please contact us with the domain name in question.

Please note that for one-off requests the Domain Name Commission's position is that Registrant withheld information will not be disclosed unless authorised by law.

Each application will be assessed on its own merits, and when determining whether a Requester has established a legitimate need, the DNCL will consider the relevant provisions of the Privacy Act.
