.nz Registrations hit 250,000
InternetNZ through the Office of the Domain Name Commissioner is pleased to announce that the number of registrations of domain names under the .nz top level domain reached 250,000 late yesterday, showing continued strong growth in the Internet space in New Zealand.
It was in September 2005 that registrations reached 200,000, having previously reached 150,000 in April 2004.
Domain Name Commissioner Debbie Monahan says the growth in domain names is a result of a robust competitive market involving over 60 authorised registrars offering .nz names to businesses and the public.
"We anticipate continued growth in both the number of domain names and in the number of registrars involved in the market. This shows the strength of the competitive market model for domain names, backing onto an independent and impartial registry service."
