Experts & Mediators


Below is a list of all current Mediators and Experts, who respectively provide mediation and expert determinations, for the .nz Dispute Resolution Service

Hon. Sir Ian Barker, QC was a Judge of the High Court of New Zealand from 1976 to 1997. He was Judge in charge of the Commercial List from 1987 to 1997.He has been  a  domain dispute panelist for the World Intellectual Property  Organisation since 2000. He is a past-President and Fellow of the Arbitrators’ and Mediators’ Institute of New Zealand and is a panel member of that institution as well as of several arbitral institutions overseas. He has sat often in Courts of Appeal in the Pacific and is currently a member of the Cook Islands Court of Appeal.

Sir Ian has been appointed as an arbitrator in international disputes by various international  arbitral organisations and in the last two years has been  involved in major arbitrations in Canada and Singapore. He has been asked to undertake various inquiries of a public nature and has recently completed his role, on appointment by the Minister for Primary Industries, as independent Chair of a Strategy Group of representatives of all fishing interests to consider the preservation and development of the Snapper1 fishery

Andrew Brown QC has been appointed the Chair of the Experts. His appointment is for a period of two years. Andrew Brown is experienced in handling internet domain name disputes in the New Zealand Courts and in relation to top level domain names. He was Australasian President of the Intellectual Property Society of Australia and New Zealand (IPSANZ),  is  a current WIPO panellist and  also Director of the Legal Research Foundation.

Maria Dew QC is a barrister who has been at the independent bar since 2000 and in litigation in New Zealand and overseas for over 20 years. She specialises in employment law, professional misconduct and civil disputes. Maria is currently a Deputy Chair of the Health Practitioners Disciplinary Tribunal and is a qualified mediator appointed to various mediation panels.

Clive Elliott QC is an Auckland-based Barrister. He is the President of the New Zealand Bar Association. Clive is an AMINZ fellow and a panel member of AMINZ's IP list. He is appointed to WIPO and NAF's panel of neutrals and has decided a number of international domain name disputes.

Hon Robert Fisher QC has 15 years experience as a High Court Judge. Since leaving the bench in March 2004 he has been in full-time practice as an arbitrator and mediator. He is also a member of the Kiribati, Samoa, Tuvalu and Cook Islands Courts of Appeal. He is a Fellow of the Arbitrators and Mediators Institute of New Zealand and an expert for the Council of Country Code Administrators Domain Name Complaint Resolution Service.

Kevin Glover is a barrister at Shortland Chambers in Auckland.  He acts on a wide range of commercial disputes and specialises in intellectual property, technology and media disputes.  He was admitted in 2000, holds a Master of Law from the University of Cambridge and has practised as a barrister sole since 2009.  Kevin has acted as counsel on a number of cases involving domain name issues, including the first complaint heard under the DRS.

Sheana Wheeldon is a Barrister with many years’ experience in trade mark law, and has handled a variety of New Zealand domain name disputes. She is a member of the New Zealand Law Society's IP Committee, the trans-Tasman and New Zealand Committees of IPSANZ, and the ADR Sub-committee of the International Trademarks Association.
