.nz WHOIS review

DNCL undertook a review of the .nz WHOIS policy and how it operates. This was undertaken in a staged manner with five public consultations being run.

Fifth consultation (March 2017 - May 2017)

This is the fifth consultation relating to the WHOIS review and it is seeking comment on proposed policy changes.

Fourth consultation (Oct - Nov 2016)

The fourth consultation proposed that all contact address and telephone information for individual registrants is withheld from publication in the WHOIS.

Two options were proposed for still displaying the name, email address and geography (e.g. city, region, country) of individual registrants.

Third consultation (May - Jun 2016)

The third consultation proposed a change that could see registrants able to apply to have their personal details withheld from the WHOIS. 65 submissions were received.

Second consultation (Nov 2015 - Jan 2016)

The second consultation focussed on the ‘how’ and ‘what’ of WHOIS. In particular, comment was sought on the information disclosed in response to a WHOIS search, who disclosures should be made to and how information should be provided. 29 submissions were received.

First consultation (Oct - Nov 2015)

The first consultation focussed on why registrant data should, or should not, be collected and then accessible by way of a WHOIS search. 24 submissions were received.
