Domain Name Allocation process

As part of the implementation of the SRS, a process needs to be established as to how domain names will be transferred from the stabilising registrar, Domainz, across to new competitive registrars on their initial connection to the SRS.

To assist in setting the process required, legal advice was obtained from Andrew Brown, QC. Though there is no obligation for us to release this legal advice, we have decided to do so to enable all parties to see the basis on which we have established our process.

A copy of the legal advice can be viewed at http://dnc.org.nz/content/legal_advice_brown.pdf (269KB)

To assist you further, a draft overview of the Domain Name Allocation process is also available on the web site at http://dnc.org.nz/content/Draft_DNA_process.pdf (35KB)

This is an outline only. Full details will be contained in the Domain Name Allocation policy that will be released as part of the Registrar Implementation Kit on 6 September.
